Speaking of Whistles… They did a crazy flash sale last Thursday when all last season pieces were priced at £20.
I took the opportunity to snap up a long black dress I’d seen in store some months ago and had found very nice.
The dress arrived today and here’s how it looks like on…
It’s cool and elegant, even though I could probably do with 1 size smaller in the chest area…
But the real issue is: when am I going to wear this dress?
I confess the main reason why I bought it was the price, which was discounted from £250 to £20 (!), because I don’t really need a long black dress like this right now.
On the other hand, I like the way it looks on me, I like the fabric and I think it is a well made piece, i.e. it’s really good value for £20!
What should I do? Convince my single friends to get married (in the evening, preferably) so that I can wear it? I’m attending two weddings next summer, so maybe I can wear it to one of them…

Yes, I did it again – I bought another item at Comptoir des Cotonniers. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but from time to time I develop a childish obsession with some brands and I start coveting almost everything they come out with.
Anyway, this time the item of choice was this teal top with a silk insert.
I loved the colour (didn’t have anything similar in my closet) and I have a soft spot for lace/silk details like this.
I thought this top would be easy to match not only with jeans (which I wear almost on a daily basis), but also with a skirt in case I need something a little bit more elaborate to go out for dinner or a party (not that I am attending that many parties these days… ). Here I’m wearing it with my favourite skirts:
♥ My T by Alexander Wang jersey skirt ♥ a silk skirt from Whistles – I love the bow on the waist and the fact it has pockets (I love when skirts or dresses have pockets. They are so useful – why are they so underestimated in fashion?) ♥ a Vanessa Bruno skirt – this one does not have pockets but rather a draping detail on the hip, very Vanessa-Bruno-style. I love this skirt. I have had it for 5 (6?) years and almost never wear it (it is SO short!) but it is the kind of piece I cannot part away with. I feel happy just from looking it. ♥
PS: As I was writing this post my husband’s cousin, Benedetta, sent me a 30% off voucher discount for Comptoir des Cotonniers (haha… you see? it’s beyond me. It’s destiny forcing me to spend money with Comptoir).
As she is based in Italy, I am not sure it will work in the UK (or elsewhere outside Italy)… but you may want to give it a try? The code is CHICVIP and the offer is valid (on a selection of articles) for 24hr only on Thursday 18th. Thanks Benedetta!

inI wore…
♥ on Wednesday: grey sweater from Whistles (this season, find similar here), Whistles trousers, F-troupe bow boots and my new Comptoir jacket (so cosy and warm. love it) ♥ on Friday: same grey sweater, Etoile IM black cords (similar to these, but from a previous collection. Bought at Yoox.com), and IM Dicker boots ♥ On Saturday: Sessun dress, Dune shoes and Whistles coat (all from 2-3 autumns ago) ♥
I swear I tried to photograph more looks, but the lack of good light during the hours I was home didn’t allow me to… Honestly, how do you, girls-who-live-in-sun-deprived-locations-like-me, manage to take decent pictures during autumn and winter months? I don’t know how to do it.
Well, since it was quite sunny this morning I decided to replicate two outfits I wore on Tuesday:
♥ Day: Etoile IM Momo jacket and black linen tee-shirt (both this season; jacket bought at Aimé and tee in Liberty), MiH wide-leg jeans (bought at a ridiculous low price 3 or 4 years ago at a my-wardrobe sale), black suede boots ♥ Evening: same jacket and tee, Dicker boots with T by Alexander Wang jersey skirt (last season, but similar here) ♥
I’m quite happy I got the Momo jacket. It’s a striking piece, but can be easily adapted to a more relaxed lifestyle (like mine) if paired with jeans and a tee, I think. The shoulder-pads in this jacket will have to go, though. I’ve got naturally broad shoulders and everytime I put on clothing with shoulder pads I feel like I’m dressed to play some American football (I mean, something like this). In fact, thinking of it, I’m still traumatised by some dreadful broad-shoulder blazers I used to wear to school in the early 1990s… Arghh, truly hideous.

inI think it was time to dedicate a post to my favourite UK high-street brand: Whistles.
I know I’ve mentioned this brand several times (for instance, here, here and also here), but I never gave it the space it deserves, or at least proportional to the one it takes in my closet. So, here it is. Chapeau to Whistles, which I think is an absolutely brilliant British brand. It consistently offers great design, good quality and reasonable prices. I would happily wear anything from their collection, which says it all.
But… if I really, really had to choose among all the great things they’ve currently up for sale, these would be my picks:
♥ Lace insert Sweater – love, love, love this sweater (£110) – did I say I love this sweater? ♥ Teal dropped waist dress (£125) ♥ Dark green mini foulard print dress (£135) ♥ Boucle jacket – the picture doesn’t do it justice in my opinion (£150)
♥ Blue/Grey cashmere cowl-neck sweater (£170) ♥ Burgundy cashmere dress (£165) ♥ White crepe top (£75) and crepe jogging trousers ♥ Silk print jacket (£150) and trousers (£125)
♥ Nude embellished silk top (£195) ♥ Blue lace insert top (£125) ♥ Green silk print blouse (£110) and black skinny jeans (£80) ♥ Grey / black suede court shoes (£125)
And…
…this tunic, which is not yet available for sale, but (depending on price, material and fit) will hopefully be mine some time soon ;)

A.P.C., Anthropologie, Ash, Fashion, Isabel Marant, Mango, Oasis, Office, Repetto, Shoes, Today I'm wearing, Topshop, Whistles
this past week:
• Tuesday (the working week actually started on Tuesday this week since Monday was Bank Holiday): jacket + t-shirt Etoile Isabel Marant + Nudie jeans + Comptoir des Cotonniers suede sandals
• Wednesday: blouse Whistles (I love the cut of this blouse, but unfortunately it’s not of very high quality. I’ve been practicing my sewing skills quite a lot because of this blouse) + jeans Oasis + shoes Office
• Thursday: jacket Mango + lace top Whistles + jeans Level 99 (bought at Anthropologie) + Isabel Marant boots
• Friday: plaid shirt Isabel Marant Etoile + jeans Oasis (still not convinced about Sonia+white jeans combo. I think they can look great on other people, but on me…bahh. Potential ebay material) + Ash Jalouse boots (anyone looking for an alternative to IM Dicker boots? Go for these boots. That’s my advice)
• Friday (evening): dress APC + leggings Uniqlo (unfortunately, I can’t stand wearing pantyhose. As a result, as soon as temperature drops I need to resort to cotton leggings/tights) + Isabel Marant boots
• Saturday (today!): plaid shirt Zara (new, now in stores) + jeans Topshop + ballerinas Repetto (200 years old and you actually can see it. shame on me)
This post was unashamedly inspired by Lin‘s “recently I wore” post from a couple of weeks ago (read it here). I was so impressed by her clean well-defined style that I wanted to put myself through a similar experiment and document all my daily outfits for a week. I knew before I started taking these pictures that I’m far from having such a clear style identity. I almost schizophrenically alternate between rock star print jeans (see here) and candid APC sailor dresses (see here).
But, well, this is me at the moment. I guess it may also say something about my personality? :)
The interesting thing about this ‘experiment’ (I like this word, it makes it all sound very scientific) and the whole blogging experience is that I’ve found out /confirmed a few things about my sartorial / stylistic preferences:
